一、under的常见用法

1.under表示“(位置)在……下面”；例如：

• under her overcoat 在她的大衣下

• walk under the sea 在海底行走

2.under表示“(年龄、数量、重量、程度等)在……以下，低于”；例如：

• children under 12 12岁以下的孩子

• under seven kilometers 不超过七千米

3.under表示“由……控制(管理或经营)”；例如：

• The future is uncertain and not under our control. 未来是不确定的，它不处于我们的控制之下。

• In this program, students, under the leadership of a qualified instructor, will build a house. 在这个项目中，学生们将在一位合格导师的带领下建造一所房子。

4.under表示“在……过程中”；例如：

• The castle is under repair. 城堡正在修缮中。

• It is still under discussion whether the old bus station should be replaced with a modern hotel or not. 是否应该用现代化的酒店取代旧公共汽车站仍在讨论中。

5.under表示“受……影响; 由……造成”；例如：

• The British parliament seemed to have been under the mistaken assumption. 英国议会似乎受到了错误观点的影响。

• People learn better about positive than negative outes under stress. 在压力之下，相比于消极结果，人们会更好地了解积极结果。

二、till/until的常见用法

1.till/until表示“到......时；直到......为止”；例如：

• You will have to wait till next year. 你得等到明年。

• I waited patiently until/till the oil was hot. 我耐心地等着，直到油热起来。

2.till/until用于否定句时，表示“直到......才”；例如：

• She won't be here till about ten o'clock. 她大约10点才能到这儿。

• I can't get away until the end of August. 我要到八月底才能休假。

3.注意事项

till和until还可以作连词引导时间状语从句，此时：

①till不可以置于句首，而until可以。例如：

• Until you told me, I had heard nothing of what happened. 直到你告诉我，我才知道出了什么事。

②在强调结构中until不能改为till。例如：

• It was not until the party had begun that he arrived. 直到聚会开始他才到。
